If you are looking for creative activities to fill your day, you should consider making your own jewellery.
There is nothing to worry about because you don’t have to have any prerequisite knowledge or a special skill in order to create something beautiful. What you really need are energy to experiment and a vivid imagination to match materials and colours.
Besides your personal aesthetic, you also need materials for jewellery making. You can find them in special shops selling supplies for jewellery making and arts and crafts. Your own taste will dictate what you will buy. However, you will definitely need:
Supplies:
- Chains, string, wire, head pins or any other material you would like to be the base of your jewellery
- Hoops
- Clasps
- Stones
- A variety of beads and other decorative items
- Pliers
You will need a pair of pliers so that you can hold pieces together. Using solely your hands will not make it as all supplies are tiny and they are difficult to handle. Thus, pliers ensure that your final product will remain in one piece.
Bracelet or Necklace
Once you buy all your supplies from a retail supplies store, you can start the jewellery-making process straight away. This is possible because the stones will have two holes on either side. You will put a piece of wire or a chain through them, and then you will attach a clasp to it. Depending on the length of the chain, this is the easiest way to make a bracelet or a necklace.
If you have used a piece of string but you do not want your stone to move around, you should put the string through the two holes of the stone and make two ties on each side of the stone. This way your stone will not be able to move past the ties.
Earrings
You should choose small and light stones if you want to make earrings so that they do not hurt or stretch out your earlobe. For this type of craft, a pair of pliers is obligatory.
You take a bead and slide it down a head pin. You will cut half of the head pin, and you will create a loop by gripping the end of the pin using a pair of pliers and twisting it to one side. Take a second head pin, attach a second stone to it, cut the remaining wire and make a loop, like you did with the first pin. Then, put this second head pin through the loop made in the first head pin. Attach the clasp in the loop of the second pin.
How to make a hole in a stone
You can do all the things described above using stones you have found on the beach. You just need to add one more step in the process which requires you to make a hole in the stone you want to use. Can this happen? Yes! You just take a plastic bowl and put a small piece of wood inside it. You put your stone on top of the wood. You will add enough water in the bowl to cover the stone. Then, you take a drill and start slowly drilling the stone.
